Reviewing Actuary: Expectations versus reality

The CBI’s Domestic Actuarial Regime requires insurers to engage an independent ‘Reviewing Actuary’ to perform a periodic review of the Technical Provisions and the related Actuarial Opinion on Technical Provisions (AOTPs) and Actuarial Report on Technical Provisions (ARTPs). In this presentation given at the Society of Actuaries in Ireland’s Annual Convention (24th May 2019), Aisling Barrett and Eoin King discuss their experience of the Reviewing Actuary role (having both been part of teams performing the review as well as being part of teams subject to review by another Reviewing Actuary). The session considers the expectations of different stakeholders and how these align with the realities of the process.
