Michael Daly is a principal and consulting actuary for the Greater China and South East Asia life insurance consulting practice of Milliman. He is based in Hong Kong. Michael is a widely known and respected consultant. He has enjoyed successful careers as an insurance company senior executive, reinsurer, and consultant. He joined the firm in 2010.
Michael helps drive Milliman’s life consulting activities in the Greater China region (Hong Kong, Mainland China, Taiwan), and supports the development of the firm’s consulting services in South East Asia. He has country responsibility for Thailand, the Philippines, and the Indochina markets.
Michael has more than 30 years of life insurance experience gained in the Asia-Pacific region and in Europe. He formerly led the North Asian life insurance consulting practice of Watson Wyatt, with responsibility for business in Hong Kong, Mainland China, Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan. He was a member of Watson Wyatt’s global management team.
Michael has extensive knowledge of Asia, having advised clients in all major insurance markets in the region since 1997 across a range of subject matter. His main areas of focus include mergers and acquisitions, strategy, product and distribution, and risk management. Michael has advised on numerous M&A transactions in Asia-Pacific, both for sellers and buyers. An experienced project manager, he has led and managed some of the largest and most complex life insurance consulting projects undertaken in Asia.
Michael worked in a number of senior positions at Ageas. As the chief actuary of Muang Thai Life, Ageas’ joint venture in Thailand, he gained personal experience in managing insurance businesses as well as acquiring technical expertise in pricing, valuation, financial reporting, systems and controls, and risk management. He was chief of staff to the Group CEO, working at the highest level across the insurance, retail, commercial, and merchant banking portfolios.
Michael previously established and managed the Actuarial & Insurance Management Solutions practice for PricewaterhouseCoopers in Scotland, United Kingdom.
